In Search of the Worlds Best Pepper Grinder
I love freshly ground pepper.
It goes great on just about anything. Eggs, potatoes, chicken, soup and even mac & cheese!
Unfortunately, finding a peppermill that is up to the task of producing that perfect grind has always been a challenge.
Disposable units are wasteful and most “premium models” are made from really cheap parts. It’s a lose/lose situation.
“There has to be something better out there”
That’s when I started doing some research and came across this highly rated pepper grinder by Unicorn Mills. These units are assembled in Massachusetts, made from high quality parts from Italy and the USA.
Unicorn Magnum Pepper Mill
At first glance it doesn’t look like much, but this thing is the real deal.
Even though they are made out of plastic, they feature a high quality Italian metal grinder mechanism.
Dial in the Perfect Grind
Course, fine or anything in-between.
Using the dial on the underside of the grinder, you can adjust for the perfect grind.
Here is a shot of the underside of the grinder showing the adjustment dial.
Unlike the majority of other grinders I have tried. This adjustment knob actually works very well.
Peppermill for Food Servers
Due to the lightweight body and precision grinder, these peppermills are extremely popular in restaurants among food servers.
The company even sells holsters that can be clipped onto your side. This allows you to carry the grinder with you at all times, saving an extra trip to the wait station.
I have never seen these grinders sold in-stores and they cannot be purchased direct from Unicorn Mills. If you want to get your hands on one of these grinders you will have to pick them up through Amazon (see link below)

How to Fill and Use the Pepper Grinder
Filling the Magnum is very easy.
Simply twist the collar located directly under the twist knob to reveal the fill port.
From here you can pour in your Whole Peppercorns until full.
Tip: Black Peppercorns have the strongest flavor and can stay fresh for around one year (depending on storage)
Once full, just twist the collar back to cover the fill opening.
Now you are all ready to start grinding that fresh pepper!
How to use the Magnum Pepper Grinder
The Magnum Pepper Grinder is a “high-output” mill that puts out ALOT of pepper.
To operate:
Grab the base of the unit firmly in one hand and then use your other hand to twist the top…pretty easy.
Minimal Effort, Maximum Output
The cool thing about this grinder is that it will put out a large amount of pepper with minimal twisting of the top. Pepper lovers rejoice!
Here is a short video of this grinder in action:
As you can see from the video, this thing puts out a ton of pepper! Just a quarter or a half turn is all you need for most dishes.
