Built to last a lifetime, see what makes KNIPEX pliers one my favorite tools!
Hard to Find in Stores, Buy Online and save
Unfortunately, this is not a brand that you will find at your local Hardware store.
Since they are crafted in Germany and have a price point higher than a Chinese equivalent, they can be a bit hard to find.
Luckily with the power of the internet you can easily order them online and have them shipped direct to your house.
So far I have still yet to see these tools at any neighborhood Home Depot, Lowes, Walmart, Target or similar store.
Quality in Every Detail, German Engineering
Far from your typical set of boring pliers.
The design, operation and overall feel in your hands. Once you use a set of KNIPEX pliers there is no going back to your “traditional” pliers.
Everything about these pliers oozes quality
While there are a ton of features packed into this design. My favorite feature is the “push” to adjust button.
Simply press the button to unlock the jaws, this allows for quick and easy adjustments on the fly. Great for tight spaces like under sinks, automotive work, gas lines and more!
Features:
- Smooth parallel gripping jaws, will not mark delicate surfaces
- Slim profile head to reach into tight spaces
- Heat treated steel for strength
- Adjustment at the touch of a button
- Extreme gripping power and leverage
What are these pliers best used for?
Now that we went over what makes these some of the best pliers in the world…What can they do?
The primary task of this tool is to grip onto a fastener (nut, bolt, fitting) and apply a force multiplier in the form of leverage.
In other words, they make it easy to tighten things or loosen things.
Don’t we already have tools to do this?
Yes, there are a few other tools that can act as a substitute to get the job done. Before ordering my pair of KNIPEX pliers, I was using an adjustable wrench for most of these tasks.
Adjustable wrenches are very popular and are also referred to as adjustable spanners or under the popular brand name Crescent wrench. While they can all “get the job done”, once you experience the difference it is hard going back.
Popular Uses for Pliers
- Tighten/Loosen nuts & bolts
- Tightening Locknuts
- Adjusting Plated finishes, Kitchen, Bathroom, Faucets, etc
- Securely hold material in place (like a small vise)
- Bending sheet metal
- Water, Gas, Air pipes and fittings
Personally I carry the 7-1/4″” size in my truck tool kit as they are a great “do all” kind of tool.
These pliers would also make a great addition on any Boat, Motorcycle, RV, Airplane, Snowmobile or ATV where space for tools is limited.

That is why these tools makes such a great gift.
- They are hard to find
- They are high quality
- They are something you never knew you needed
- With proper care…they should last a lifetime
Again, I have personally never seen these tools available from a local reseller.
When shopping online, keep in mind they are offered in a few different sizes. These sizes range from the small 5″ up to the large 16″.
What Size Pliers are Best?
Unfortunately there is no “one size fits all” when it comes to pliers. When it comes to selecting a size, it is best to ask. What is the application?
If these are your first set of adjustable pliers or if you are purchasing these as a gift.
My Recommendation would be to go for the 7-1/4″ size
The 7-1/4″ size is right in the middle of the pack and can do the majority of around-the-house tasks. This is also a great size for a vehicle tool kit as they are small enough to store under a seat or in a glove box but large enough to perform most basic repairs.
Again, since they are adjustable there is a good amount of flexibility for both large and small jobs.
Who would benefit from the smaller sized 5″ & 6″ versions?
- Ultra compact to carry on a bicycle or EDC (every day carry) pouch
- Electronics Technicians, Solar Panel Techs, Low voltage Repair
- Working with small fittings in cramped spaces
Who would benefit from the larger 10″, 12″ and 16″ versions?
- Plumbers
- Farmers
- Gas lines, Water lines where large fittings are used
- Heavy Equipment Operators, Diesel Mechanics
In short, there really is no one-size to rule them all.
My advice would be to start off with the medium and expand your collection as your budget allows.

Even if your son or boyfriend is not your typical “handyman” they will still appreciate the craftsmanship that went into the design. Who knows, they might even use them more than you think!
