Outlet plug covers are used for a variety of reasons but they can also be a huge pain to remove. Not anymore!
Finally there is a solution to the hard-to-remove plastic covers of the past. Great for frequently used outlets or pretty much any outlet you would want to use again.
Never again will I use the old style push in plastic outlet covers.
Sure, they are great at protecting the outlet from unwanted use. But they are also nearly impossible to remove.
Removable Electrical Outlet Covers, (uses)
There are many reasons you may need to plug an electrical outlet.
- Baby/Child proof outlets for safety
- Reduce draft from electrical outlet (exterior walls)
- Prevent bees or spiders from plugging electrical outlets
Baby/Child Proof Electrical Outlets for saftey
One of the most popular reasons on wanting to cover an electrical outlet is due to safety.
To keep small children from potentially sticking a metal object into an electrical outlet, a small plastic plug can do the trick.
For this application an easy-to-remove plug may not be the best option. Due to the fact that they are easier to remove vs a simply push in plug.
Reduce draft from electrical outlets
This was the reason for my purchase and the reason I searched out an easy to remove option.
On exterior walls it is possible for cold air to blow through an open electrical outlet.
The problem with most of these plugs is that they are extremely hard to remove once installed. Great at keeping kids out, but a huge P.I.T.A for adults who need access to these outlets on a regular basis.
Prevent bees from plugging electrical outlets
Another great use for these plugs is to keep your outlets free from bees and other insects.
Bees and spiders can plug up electrical outlets by making nests inside the small holes. This can be very frustrating when you need an outlet, only to find it plugged solid with sand.
To keep insects out of electrical outlets but still maintain easy access, these covers are…the bee’s knees.
Unique Handle-Tab Outlet Covers, Features
These plugs are excellent!
The flip-out tab allows you to grab onto the plug and easily pull it out of the electrical socket. This one feature really makes all the difference.
So much better, I threw out all of my old style plugs!
If you have every used the older basic plugs, you know just how hard they are to remove. This is especially frustrating on frequently used outlets.
Another important feature of these plugs is that they plug ALL 3 holes in a standard wall socket. Great again for stopping a draft or preventing insects from building nests.
Removable Outlet Plugs, How-To-Use
These plugs are super easy to use, no more having to break a nail!
First – Pull up on the top of the cap to expose the small plastic tab
*or down depending on which way your outlet was installed
Second – Grab onto the tab and pull!
Here is a short video showing the entire process.
How to Fix Drafty Electrical Outlets
Plastic outlet plugs can be used to stop a cold draft from blowing out of an electrical outlet. Plugs with flip-down handles are easy to install and can be removed when access to the outlet is required.
In addition to outlet plugs, foam gasket kits can be installed behind the electrical plates. These gaskets will help to stop cold air from escaping around the electrical box cutout.
Removable Electrical Outlet Safety Covers (conclusion)
As you can tell, I absolutely love these covers!
They do a great job of protecting your outlets but are still easy enough to remove without much issue.
